Barack Obama is an American politician who served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He was the first African American to hold the office. A member of the Democratic Party, Obama previously served as a U.S. Senator from Illinois. His presidency focused on healthcare reform, economic recovery following the 2008 financial crisis, and foreign policy initiatives. He is known for the Affordable Care Act, also called "Obamacare." After leaving office, Obama has remained active in public speaking and writing, advocating for democratic values and social justice.
