Baptist War

The Baptist War, also known as the Christmas Rebellion (1831), was a large enslaved uprising in Jamaica. Enslaved Africans, many inspired by Baptist religious teachings emphasizing spiritual freedom, organized a revolt to challenge slavery's brutal system. The rebellion involved thousands of enslaved people who attacked plantations and aimed for emancipation. Although it was quickly suppressed, the uprising highlighted the resistance of enslaved populations and contributed to the broader movement towards the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. It remains a significant event in Caribbean history, symbolizing the struggle for freedom and human rights.
