Bantu Education (document)

Bantu Education was a system established in South Africa in 1953 to provide education predominantly for Black Africans, under apartheid policies. Its purpose was to limit Black students’ learning opportunities, focusing on basic skills to prepare them for low-status jobs, while maintaining white economic and social dominance. The curriculum emphasized manual labor and racial segregation, intentionally underfunding Black schools. Bantu Education enforced systemic inequality, controlling and restricting opportunities for Black South Africans and reinforcing apartheid’s racial hierarchy.
