Bangladeshi independence
Bangladesh's independence movement arose from long-standing economic and cultural disparities between East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan). Despite being the majority region, East Pakistan faced political marginalization and neglect. Tensions escalated when the 1970 elections favored East Pakistani leaders, but their demands for autonomy were ignored. Following a brutal crackdown by West Pakistani forces during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, East Pakistan declared independence. With support from India, Bangladesh fought a nine-month war, culminating in their liberation on December 16, 1971, establishing an independent, sovereign nation focused on its language, culture, and development.
