Bandoneon

The bandoneon is a type of portable, free-reed musical instrument similar to an accordion, often associated with Latin American tango music. It consists of a bellows in the middle and buttons on the front and back that control air flow through metal reeds, producing sound when expanded or compressed. Played by pushing and pulling the instrument while pressing the buttons, it generates rich, expressive tones essential to tango ensembles. Originating in 19th-century Germany, the bandoneon has become a symbol of passionate, emotive music, combining technical complexity with soulful sound.
