Ban on DDT
The ban on DDT refers to the global restriction on the use of the chemical pesticide DDT, implemented after concerns about its environmental and health impacts. DDT was initially widely used for controlling mosquitoes that spread malaria and other pests. However, it was found to persist in the environment, accumulate in wildlife and humans, and cause health problems. Its detrimental effects on ecosystems, especially bird populations, led to international agreements like the Stockholm Convention, which restricts or bans DDT to protect health and biodiversity while allowing its use only in specific circumstances for disease control.
