Ballast Testing
Ballast testing is the process of inspecting and evaluating the condition of the ballast in railway tracks, which are the crushed stones or gravel supporting the sleepers and ties. Proper ballast ensures stability, drainage, and load distribution for safe train operation. Testing includes checking the ballast’s strength, cleanliness, and drainage capability, often through various methods like samples, visual inspections, and specialized equipment. This helps identify areas where ballast may be deteriorating or contaminated, enabling maintenance to prevent track instability, reduce derailments, and extend the lifespan of the railway infrastructure.
