Baker Act

The Baker Act is a Florida law that allows for the involuntary examination and temporary detention of individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis and pose a threat to themselves or others. It enables mental health professionals to evaluate these individuals in a safe environment, without requiring their consent, for up to 72 hours. The goal is to ensure that those in crisis receive necessary care and treatment while protecting their rights and safety. If further treatment is needed, additional legal steps can be taken to secure it.
