Lake Baikal, located in Siberia, Russia, is the world's deepest and oldest freshwater lake, containing about 20% of the Earth's unfrozen surface water. It reaches depths of around 1,642 meters (5,387 feet) and is estimated to be around 25 million years old. Unique for its pristine clarity and rich biodiversity, Baikal hosts thousands of species, many of which are found nowhere else.
