Baghdad Pact Organization
The Baghdad Pact Organization, also known as the Middle East Treaty Organization, was formed in 1955 to promote security and cooperation among Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey. It aimed to counter the influence of the Soviet Union during the Cold War by creating a mutual defense alliance. The organization sought to prevent Soviet expansion and maintain stability in the Middle East, but it faced challenges due to regional politics and differing national interests. The pact was short-lived, evolving into other alliances or dissolving by the early 1970s.
