Baerveldt Tube Shunt
A Baerveldt Tube Shunt is a surgical device used to treat glaucoma, a condition where increased eye pressure can damage the optic nerve. It consists of a small tube implanted in the eye to help drain excess fluid, reducing pressure. The shunt connects the inside of the eye to a specially placed reservoir or plate outside the eye, allowing fluid to bypass blocked drainage pathways. This procedure helps prevent vision loss and preserves eye health in patients whose glaucoma isn't controlled with medication or other treatments.
