Bacteria resistance
Bacterial resistance occurs when bacteria develop the ability to survive despite the presence of antibiotics designed to kill them. This happens through genetic changes or by acquiring resistance genes, allowing bacteria to neutralize the drug, pump it out, or alter their structure. As a result, infections become harder to treat, leading to longer illnesses and increased risk of complications. Overuse or misuse of antibiotics accelerates this process, making bacteria more resistant and reducing the effectiveness of existing medicines. Combating resistance involves responsible antibiotic use, developing new drugs, and applying infection control measures.
