Bacon's Rebellion
Bacon's Rebellion was a 1676 uprising in Virginia led by Nathaniel Bacon, a frontier planter, against the colonial government. The unrest arose from frustrations over government corruption, lack of protection from Native American attacks, and limited economic opportunities for frontier settlers. Bacon and his followers wanted to expand into Native lands and demanded more aggressive policies. When the government refused, Bacon led a revolt, attacking Native tribes and burning Jamestown. Although ultimately suppressed, the rebellion highlighted tensions between frontier settlers and elites, contributing to changes in colonial policies and shifting attitudes toward Native Americans.
