B cell receptors

B cell receptors are specialized proteins located on the surface of B cells, a type of immune cell. These receptors are shaped to recognize specific molecules, called antigens, like those found on bacteria, viruses, or other pathogens. When a B cell receptor binds to its target antigen, it triggers the B cell to activate and produce antibodies that help neutralize or eliminate the threat. Essentially, B cell receptors act as the immune system’s sensors, identifying invaders and initiating protective responses.
