B-cell receptor (BCR)
A B-cell receptor (BCR) is a specialized molecule on the surface of B cells, a type of immune cell. It functions like a lock that recognizes specific parts of germs, such as bacteria or viruses. When the BCR detects its target, it triggers the B cell to activate and produce antibodies, which help fight the infection. Each BCR is unique, tailored to recognize a specific invader, allowing the immune system to identify and respond effectively to a wide range of pathogens.
