B.C. Roy, or Bidhan Chandra Roy, was an influential Indian physician and politician, born on July 1, 1882, in Bihar and later associated with West Bengal. He served as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 1948 until his death in 1962 and was instrumental in the state's development post-independence. A prominent figure in the Indian National Congress, he played a significant role in healthcare reform and education, establishing many institutions, including the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in Kolkata. B.C. Roy is celebrated annually on July 1 as National Doctors' Day in India, honoring his contributions to medicine and society.
