Aztec writing

Aztec writing was a system combining logograms (symbols representing words or ideas) and pictographs (pictures depicting objects or concepts). It wasn’t an alphabet but an intricate visual code used mainly for recording historical events, tribute lists, and religious texts. The Mexica (Aztec) scribes used stylized images, often with added signs for pronunciation or context, to communicate complex information visually. While not a fully developed written language like Latin or Chinese, it served as an effective record-keeping system that complemented their rich oral traditions. Today, these symbols provide valuable insights into Aztec culture and history.
