Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK)
Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is a self-governing administrative region under Pakistan, located in the northern part of the broader Kashmir area. It was established following the 1947 partition of British India and the subsequent conflict over Kashmir. AJK has its own government, legislative assembly, and judiciary, but its sovereignty is not internationally recognized as an independent state. The region is known for its mountainous landscapes, forests, and vibrant cultural heritage. Its residents identify as Kashmiris, and the area plays a significant role in regional geopolitics, especially concerning India and Pakistan’s ongoing dispute over the larger Kashmir territory.
