Axumite coinage
Axumite coinage refers to the money used by the Kingdom of Axum, an ancient civilization that thrived in present-day Ethiopia and parts of Eritrea from around 100 AD to 600 AD. These coins were made of gold, silver, and bronze, featuring designs such as the image of the king, symbols, and inscriptions in Ge’ez, the local script. Axumite coinage played a crucial role in trade, both regional and with distant lands, helping establish Axum as a major trading power. The coins reflect the kingdom's economic strength and cultural identity before its decline.
