Axon hillock

The axon hillock is a specialized part of a nerve cell (neuron) where signals called electrical impulses are generated and begin to travel along the axon, which is like the neuron’s outgoing wire. Located at the area where the cell body connects to the axon, the axon hillock acts as a decision point, determining whether the incoming signals are strong enough to trigger an impulse. If they are, it initiates the electrical signal that moves down the axon to communicate with other neurons, muscles, or glands.
