Axel

An Axel is a type of rotary jump in figure skating where the skater jumps off with a forward motion and completes a full 360-degree spin before landing on their recorded edge. It is unique because it is the only jump that takes off facing forward, making it more challenging to execute. Named after the Norwegian figure skater Axel Paulsen, the Axel is considered one of the most difficult jumps due to its forward takeoff and extra rotation compared to other jumps. Skilled skaters use it to showcase technical ability and add complexity to their routines.
