Awabakal Language

Awabakal is the language of the Indigenous Awabakal people from the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the larger Yuin-Kuric linguistic group. Though it faced decline due to colonization, efforts are underway to revive and preserve it through language programs and cultural initiatives. Awabakal language encompasses unique vocabulary, pronunciation, and cultural expressions important to the community’s identity and heritage. Recognizing and learning Awabakal contributes to respecting Indigenous traditions and promoting linguistic diversity in Australia.
