Avon County Council

Avon County Council was the local authority responsible for governing the administrative county of Avon in southwestern England from 1974 to 1996. It managed essential services such as education, transportation, waste management, and social services for the area. Based in Bristol, the council made decisions affecting local communities, working alongside district councils. Avon County Council was eventually abolished in 1996, with its responsibilities redistributed to unitary authorities like Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, and Bath and North East Somerset.
