Auxiliary Territorial Service
The Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) was the women's army auxiliary in the United Kingdom during World War II. Established in 1938, it enabled women to volunteer for non-combat roles, such as clerks, drivers, and radar operators, supporting military operations. The ATS allowed women to contribute directly to the war effort while serving in various essential functions outside frontline combat. It was the women's branch of the British Army until it was fully integrated into the regular army after the war in 1949. The ATS played a significant role in expanding opportunities for women in the military.
