Autosomal recessive

Autosomal recessive is a pattern of inherited traits where a person must inherit two copies of a faulty gene, one from each parent, to be affected by a genetic condition. If they inherit only one copy, they are a carrier and usually do not show symptoms. For the condition to occur, both parents must pass on the affected gene. Examples include cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia. This inheritance pattern explains why such conditions often appear in families when both parents are carriers, even if they show no symptoms themselves.
