Automotive Safety Integrity Levels (ASIL) are classifications used to measure the importance of safety functions in vehicles, part of the ISO 26262 standard. They indicate how critical a safety feature is, with levels ranging from ASIL A (least critical) to ASIL D (most critical). Higher ASIL levels mean the safety function must be designed to be more reliable to prevent serious injuries or accidents. This classification helps manufacturers prioritize safety efforts and implement appropriate testing and controls to ensure vehicle safety systems perform correctly in critical situations.
