Automatic movement
Automatic movement, also known as self-winding, is a type of watch mechanism that operates without manual winding, using the natural motion of the wearer's wrist. Inside the watch, a tiny weight called a rotor spins freely with movement, transferring energy to wind the mainspring. This stored energy powers the watch continuously, eliminating the need for winding by hand. As long as the watch is worn regularly, it maintains accurate time. When not worn, it may stop and requires manual winding or repositioning to start again. Automatic movements combine mechanical craftsmanship with practical convenience.
