Autoimmunity and inflammation are closely related processes affecting the immune system. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to injury or infection, helping to heal and protect tissues. However, in autoimmune conditions, inflammation becomes uncontrolled and damaging because the immune system wrongly targets healthy cells. The interplay between autoimmunity and inflammation is a key area of research, aiming to understand how immune regulation fails and to develop treatments that reduce harmful immune responses while preserving protection against real threats.
