Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome
Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) is a rare immune disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and damages its own cells. It occurs because of a genetic problem that disrupts the normal process of removing old or excess immune cells, leading to enlarged lymph nodes, spleen, and increased risk of autoimmune issues. People with ALPS often have persistent swollen glands and may develop other autoimmune diseases, such as anemia or low blood platelet counts. Managing ALPS involves monitoring, treating autoimmune symptoms, and sometimes immunosuppressive medications to help control overactive immune responses.
