Autocephalous Churches

Autocephalous Churches are independent, self-governing Christian Orthodox Churches that manage their own affairs without external authority. Each has its own hierarchy, traditions, and leadership, typically led by a primate or patriarch. While they share common beliefs and liturgical practices, they operate autonomously, recognizing each other’s spiritual authority. Examples include the Greek Orthodox Church of Greece and the Russian Orthodox Church. Their independence allows them to address local cultural and societal needs while remaining in communion with other Orthodox Churches worldwide.
