Austrian Federal Council
The Austrian Federal Council is the upper house of Austria's Bundesversammlung, representing the country’s nine federal states (Länder). Its main role is to review and suggest amendments to legislation passed by the National Council, Austria’s lower house. Members are not directly elected but are delegated by state governments, reflecting regional interests. The Federal Council ensures regional perspectives are considered in federal laws, but its powers are limited, as the National Council has the final say. It functions as a revising body, promoting regional input within Austria’s parliamentary system.
