Auspicious Incident

The Auspicious Incident, also known as the 1826 Janissary Revolt, was a significant event in Ottoman history where the Janissaries—elite military soldiers—were disbanded and suppressed by the Ottoman government. The Janissaries had gained significant political power and resisted reforms, threatening stability. The government saw their disbandment as necessary for modernization and strengthening the state. This violent suppression led to the removal of a powerful military group and marked a turning point in Ottoman reforms, aiming to modernize the army and government institutions in the 19th century.
