Auschwitz liberation
The Auschwitz liberation occurred on January 27, 1945, when Soviet forces freed the thousands of remaining prisoners from the Nazi concentration and extermination camp in Poland. By that time, Auschwitz had become a symbol of the Holocaust's horrors, where millions, mainly Jews, were murdered. The Soviet troops uncovered the unimaginable atrocities—gas chambers, mass graves, and inhumane conditions. The liberation marked a crucial turning point, revealing the full extent of Nazi atrocities and allowing survivors to begin healing and sharing their stories. It also signified the imminent end of World War II in Europe.
