August Krogh

August Krogh was a Danish physiologist renowned for his research on how blood flow and oxygen delivery work in muscles. His work explained how small blood vessels called capillaries expand during exercise, increasing oxygen supply to tissues. This understanding helped advance sports science, medicine, and physiology. In recognition of his contributions, Krogh received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1920. His findings are fundamental to understanding how the body adapts to physical activity, ensuring muscles get enough oxygen for energy production during exertion.
