Auerbach's plexus

Auerbach's plexus, also known as the myenteric plexus, is a network of nerve cells located between the muscle layers of the gastrointestinal tract, primarily between the circular and longitudinal muscles in the esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It plays a vital role in controlling the movement and coordination of muscles involved in digestion, such as peristalsis, which propels food through the digestive system. This plexus works closely with another nerve network called Meissner's plexus to regulate functions like muscle contractions and secretion, ensuring efficient digestion and proper functioning of the GI tract.
