Audio Localization
Audio localization is the process of determining the origin or position of a sound in space. It relies on analyzing differences in sound signals reaching each ear, such as slight timing delays and volume differences. The brain or technological systems then interpret these cues to identify where the sound is coming from—whether it's in front, behind, or to the side. This ability is crucial for understanding our environment, enhancing hearing aids, improving virtual reality experiences, and designing better speaker setups in rooms. Essentially, audio localization helps us pinpoint the location of sounds around us using cues from our hearing system.
