Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS)

An Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) is a device used in aircraft to determine its orientation and direction. It combines sensors like gyroscopes and accelerometers to track the aircraft’s pitch (up and down), roll (side to side), and yaw (direction). The system continuously processes this data to provide accurate, real-time information about the aircraft's position, which is displayed on navigation instruments. Essentially, AHRS acts as the aircraft’s internal 'compass' and 'gyroscope,' helping pilots maintain control and navigate safely, especially when external references like GPS are limited or unavailable.
