Attalus
Attalus was a prominent Hellenistic figure, serving as the king of Pergamon (a city in Asia Minor) during the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE. He originally held the title of captain of the palace guards before becoming ruler. Attalus is known for strengthening Pergamon’s military and political power, supporting arts and culture, and expanding his kingdom through strategic alliances and warfare. His descendants, especially Attalus III, eventually bequeathed Pergamon’s wealth and territory to Rome, helping to shape the transition from Greek to Roman dominance in the region.
