Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP)

Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP) is a hormone produced mainly by the heart's atria (upper chambers). It helps regulate blood pressure and fluid balance by signaling kidneys to remove excess salt and water through urine. This reduces blood volume and pressure, preventing the heart from working too hard. ANP also relaxes blood vessel walls, further lowering pressure. It plays a key role in maintaining cardiovascular health, especially during times of increased blood volume or pressure, acting as a natural counterbalance to blood pressure-raising mechanisms.
