Atrial Natriuretic Peptide

Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP) is a hormone produced by the heart's atria (upper chambers) in response to increased blood pressure or volume. It helps regulate blood pressure and fluid balance by prompting the kidneys to remove excess salt and water through urine. This reduces blood volume and pressure, easing the workload on the heart and blood vessels. ANP also dilates blood vessels, further lowering blood pressure. Overall, it acts as a natural mechanism to maintain cardiovascular stability when blood volume or pressure becomes too high.
