Atopic Dermatitis in Pediatrics

Atopic dermatitis, often called eczema, is a common skin condition in children characterized by dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. It occurs due to a combination of genetic factors and an overactive immune response, leading to skin barrier dysfunction. Triggers can include allergens, irritants, or weather changes. The condition can be uncomfortable and sometimes results in sleep disturbances or social issues for affected children. Treatment generally involves moisturizing the skin, using topical corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, and avoiding known triggers. While commonly outgrown, some children may continue to experience symptoms later in life.
