Atomic Energy Control Board (AECL's predecessor)

The Atomic Energy Control Board (AECB) was Canada's government agency responsible for regulating the use of nuclear energy and materials, ensuring safety, security, and environmental protection. Established in 1946, it oversaw the development and application of nuclear technology, including reactor operations and radioactive materials. The AECB's role was to set standards, issue licenses, and monitor practices to prevent accidents and unauthorized access. In 2000, it was replaced by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), which took over its responsibilities with a broader focus on overseeing Canada's peaceful nuclear activities.
