Atomic Bomb Project
The Atomic Bomb Project, known as the Manhattan Project, was a secret U.S. research effort during World War II to develop powerful nuclear weapons. Scientists and engineers from around the world worked together to understand nuclear fission—splitting atoms to release enormous energy. Using advanced laboratories and reactors, they created the first atomic bombs, which were ultimately dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. The project marked a significant scientific achievement, but also introduced new ethical considerations about nuclear weapons' destructive power and their impact on warfare and global security.
