Atmosphere (unit)
An atmosphere (atm) is a unit of measurement used to describe pressure, specifically the pressure exerted by Earth's atmosphere at sea level. One atmosphere equals the pressure needed to support a 760 mm (or 29.92 inches) column of mercury in a barometer. In more familiar terms, it's the average pressure we experience from the air around us at sea level. This unit is commonly used in science and engineering to quantify gas pressures, such as in weather forecasting, scuba diving, or chemical experiments. It provides a standard way to compare pressures in different environments or conditions.
