Atkinson's Disease

Atkinson's disease, also known as familial pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1, is a rare genetic disorder affecting the kidneys' ability to respond properly to the hormone aldosterone. This results in the kidneys losing too much salt and retaining too much potassium, leading to symptoms like dehydration, low blood pressure, and high potassium levels. Unlike true aldosterone deficiency, the body produces enough hormone, but the kidneys don't respond as they should. Management typically involves careful regulation of salt and potassium levels, often through diet and medication, to prevent complications.
