Atherogenesis
Atherogenesis is the process by which plaques form in the arteries, leading to cardiovascular diseases. It begins with damage to the artery walls, often caused by factors like high cholesterol, smoking, or high blood pressure. This damage allows fat, cholesterol, and other substances to accumulate, forming a thick, hard deposit called plaque. Over time, the plaque narrows the arteries, restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attacks or strokes. Managing risk factors such as maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, and avoiding tobacco can help prevent atherogenesis and promote heart health.
