Atherectomy and Thrombectomy Intervention

Atherectomy and thrombectomy are interventional cardiology procedures used to treat blockages in the arteries. Atherectomy involves removing plaque—a fatty deposit that narrows blood vessels—to improve blood flow. It uses a special catheter with a cutting device on the tip. Thrombectomy, on the other hand, removes blood clots that can cause sudden blockages, often during a heart attack. Both procedures are performed through small incisions, typically in the groin or wrist, allowing doctors to navigate to the heart's blood vessels and restore normal blood flow, reducing the risk of serious complications.
