Athenian-led League
The Athenian-led League, also known as the Delian League, was a coalition of Greek city-states formed around 478 BCE to unite against Persia after the Persian Wars. Athens became the dominant power within this alliance, often using its influence to control member states and collect contributions for mutual defense. Over time, the League evolved into an Athenian empire, with Athens exerting political and economic dominance over other members. It played a crucial role in safeguarding Greek freedom from Persia, but also contributed to rising tensions and conflicts among Greek city-states.
