ATGAM

ATGAM (antithymocyte globulin) is a medication used to suppress the immune system, primarily to prevent or treat transplant rejection or certain autoimmune conditions. It is made from antibodies derived from animals, usually horses or rabbits, that target and remove specific immune cells called T lymphocytes. By reducing these cells, ATGAM helps prevent the immune system from attacking a transplanted organ or calming an overactive immune response. It is administered via injection and requires careful medical management due to potential side effects and immune suppression.
