Atelectasis
Atelectasis is a condition where part or all of a lung collapses or doesn’t fill with air properly. This can happen from blockages in the airways, injury, or pressure on the lungs. When the lung tissue collapses, it reduces oxygen intake and can cause shortness of breath, coughing, or chest pain. It often occurs after surgery, in people with lung diseases, or due to shallow breathing. Treatment focuses on addressing the cause, improving lung expansion through breathing exercises, medications, or procedures to re-expand the lung. Proper management can help restore normal lung function.
